Ward Allebach is a 1995 graduate of the Master of Science program in environmental studies at California State University, Fullerton, and received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism in 1988 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 2000, he co-founded Education.org, a business which includes EnviroEducation.com and many other web sites designed to help students find higher education opportunities; EnviroEducation.com focuses on those seeking education in any environmental field.

Allebach served seven years as a volunteer director for Green Networking for Orange County, a 501 c-3 organization he founded, based in Southern California. In the Pittsburgh environmental community, he has been active with Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future, the North Area Environmental Council, the Pine Creek Watershed Coalition, the Bradfordwoods Conservancy, the Pittsburgh Vegetarian Society, and the Keep Antibiotics Working Campaign.
