Biography

I received my undergraduate degree in biology from Carnegie Mellon University and then spent three years in bone marrow transplant research at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. I chose to switch fields and address the root cause of many ailments: pollution. I now work with Dr. Dan Bain on human impacted ecosystems. My research goals are to 1) determine the spatial and temporal extent of metal contamination in the Pittsburgh area, 2) identify the historical and current sources of metal pollution, and 3) explore the impacts of metal accumulation on sediment microbiome function, specifically nitrogen cycling functions facilitated by metalloenzymes.
