Image Visualization and Infrared Spectroscopy (IVIS) Laboratory![]() The Image Visualization and Infrared Spectroscopy (IVIS) Laboratory is a state-of-the-art image analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and GPS facility. Currently, the lab contains approximately 2 terabytes (TB) of storage housed on an online RAID disk array. The lab archives an extensive collection of NASA airborne and spaceborne visible and infrared data for many locations throughout the world as well as the surface of Mars. Image processing and data analysis are carried out using a variety of in-house packages and the ENVI software suite. The laboratory houses a Nicolet Nexus 670 FTIR spectrometer with the capability to collect concurrent reflectance and emission spectra over the 0.4 - 25 micron wavelength region. The data of soils, rocks, man-made samples, and high-temperature melts are critical for the quantitative analysis of remote sensing data. Field-based equipment includes: a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) S40 thermal camera; a visible/infrared ASD field spectrometer; a Trimble differential GPS Pathfinder Pro XRS unit with two Laser Tech 3-D profiling systems; an Exotech hand-held radiometer; and two ruggedized field laptop computers; as well as a weather station, soil temperature probes, and Nikon photographic equipment.
