It's a summer program for grad students, post-docs, and industry professionals to "Gain an integrated perspective on soil ecology and biogeochemistry with world-renowned faculty to address critical questions using up-to-date field and laboratory analytical techniques and models."
They will study the environmental effects of new anti-corrosion treatments currently being used on Pittsburgh’s lead pipes.

Becky Tisherman is a 3rd year PhD student in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science working with Dr. Dan Bain. Becky’s research tackles challenging questions about the impacts of legacy metal contamination on agricultural production. She is working on the Yunnan, China project, quantifying the contribution of legacy contamination to metal loads to receiving waters.
Marjike Hecht is a PhD student in the School of Education, and was previously the Director of Education for the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy Marijke focuses on environmental education, youth development, and nature. She worked for nearly 20 years in a variety of educational settings, including teaching middle school math and science in NYC public schools, teaching adults English in Bolivia, and educating community members about local environmental health and stewardship of Pittsburgh's greenspaces.
