In Remembrance of Department of Geology and Environmental Science Emeritus Faculty Dr. Bud Rollins

It is with great sadness that we report that Professor Emeritus Harold “Bud” Rollins passed away on January 9, 2017.  His death follows that of his wife, Jude, in 2015.  Bud was a highly valued and much-revered member of the Department of Geology and Planetary Science from the time he joined it in 1969 until his retirement in 2003, and will be missed deeply by all who knew him.

Earth Science Women's Network Event

The Department of Geology & Environmental Sciences is hosting the annual board meeting of the Earth Science Women’s Network.  Special activities are planned to bring graduate students, faculty, alumni, and regional geoscience departments together with some of the brightest and most engaging leaders in the geoscience discipline.  Join us for celebration of diversity in the geosciences by attending a special talk and networking reception on November 17 from 4-7:30pm in the Connolly Ballroom of Alumni Hall (4227 Fifth Ave.).  The talk “Satellite Data to Support Air Quality Policy and Planning” will be given by Dr. Tracey Holloway.  Dr. Holloway is a Professor at the University of Wisconsin and President of the Earth Science Women’s Network.  Anyone interested in the geosciences, environmental science, sustainability are welcome to join.  Any questions, please contact Emily Elliott (  To RSVP to a particular event, please email Jessica Caldwell (
