Hydraulic Fracturing Review and Related Treatment Technologies

September 29, 2016 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Room - Thaw 11

Peter Cartwright, PE

McEllhiney Distinguished Lecturer

Arguably one of the most controversial activities for accessing oil and gas reserves, fracking has been in the spotlight for a number of years now. While it has the potential to provide the U.S. with 50% of its fossil fuels needs, it also threatens the quality of our precious groundwater supplies.

Both scientifically and politically controversial, the more we can understand the technologies associated with extraction and treatment, the better we can address the issues and help provide solutions.

This lecture will present the technical challenges with fracking and then discuss a suite of the technologies most widely used in treatment and reuse of flow back and produced water.
