The Pittsburgh Water Collaboratory (a GES initiative) has taken a leadership role in launching the Ohio River Restoration Plan. Over the past couple of years, the Water Collaboratory Director, Jon Burgess, has been a significant driver in the push for the coalition of partners to craft a strategic plan for federally funded restoration of the Ohio River (similar to the Great Lakes Restoration Plan and the Chesapeake Bay Program).
The plan was launched on June 5, and on June 25, Pitt hosted a community listening session in Hazelwood. We hope that these efforts will provide a much-needed injection of federal dollars to the region to support research, monitoring, and mitigation activities.
